A TEACHERble Moment on Being Broken

Have you ever broken a bone?

Two hundred and seventy bones
Turn into two hundred and six.
And only one of them has been broken,

The distal phalanx.

I never knew you existed

Until the hospital visit.

Emergency room

Far from roomy.

Crowded cold.

Adrenaline consuming.

X-Rays were shown

And results were told.

Doctor confirmed the broken bone.

It was my fingertip.

As I tried to get a grip

I really tried to get a grip.

Instead I got a finger splint

And was sent on my way.

I broke a bone this day.

The distal phalanx.

My fingertip.

    1. What a beautiful thing it is to learn new things! I too had never heard of this particular bone until I broke it of course. Such a painful, fragile experience.
