How do you practice self-care?
I find myself pouring into so many people and projects that I have to remind myself to be sure to fill up my own cup. I mean, after all, you can’t pour from an empty cup, now can you?
So to ensure my cup is overflowing, I practice self-care by embracing two simple rules of mine.
Rule 1: Nurture Your Body, Mind, Spirit, and Emotions.
When you feel good, everything else brightens up! Focus on putting your best foot forward by maintaining your appearance in ways that make you feel great. Treat yourself to a fresh haircut, pamper yourself with a manicure, or unwind at a spa. Keep active and work towards maintaining a healthy weight while enjoying a delicious cheat meal now and then.
Don’t forget to treat your spirit as well. Connect with God, yourself, family, friends, a therapist or a counselor to stay grounded, freeing your mind and heart from anything weighing you down.
Rule 2: Embrace the Joy of Life.
Whether it’s traveling, trying new things, writing, drawing, going on a walk, hanging out with friends and family, or taking up a new hobby, you have to enjoy life while you still have it.
Whatever makes you happy or gives you a source of fulfillment, you should do these things daily.
Wrap-up
When you notice your cup feeling a little low, follow these rules to bring a boost of self-care into your life.
Because self care isn’t selfish!
