A TEACHERble Moment on the Future

What are you most worried about for the future?

A heavy weight
Resides within my chest,
Worrying about the future
And what lies next.
The world’s great cracks
Stretch deeper each day
Accompanied by chaos,
Loss,
And disarray.
Leaders are arrogant
And parade with pride,
With actions and words
Widening the divide.
Families are shattered
With trust betrayed
While a child’s innocence
Is lost and frayed.
Guns replace dialogue,
Violence reigns,
Trauma scarring the body
Through spiritual pain.
Mental health neglected
And ignored
By society refusing to repair its cord.
Medicine out of reach
For the weak,
Injustice thrives
On the silence we keep.
Neighbors turn from those in need,
Compassion is traded
For greed.
Wars,
Weapons,
Destruction by the fire,
Leaving ruins,
Death,
And funeral pyres.
Countries clash
In savage thirst for power,
While humanity drowns
By the darkening hours.
Amidst the darkness
I cannot ignore,
Just what the future may have in store.

Yet still I hope
And still I plea,
For change,
For peace,
For what can be.
