I commenced my journey toward becoming an educator in the fall of 2017. It was not until 2022 that I undertook my student placement. I was afforded the unique opportunity to be assigned to the very middle and high school I once attended. Over time, I developed great love and respect for the students who subsequently became my very own.
Upon my graduation from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2022, students whom I taught took the initiative to compose letters to me, which I will cherish eternally.
Here is a glimpse of my collection of letters:

My name is Erykah Gray, but most people know me as Miss Gray. I hail from the charming town of Centreville in Southern Mississippi. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in English from The University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg and a Master of Arts in Literature from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. Today, I’m a proud doctoral student at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, because I believe that learning is a lifelong journey—and I’m passionate about being on that path. Teaching isn’t just what I do; it’s who I am. I love speaking, writing, and inspiring others to find their voice. Every day in my classroom, I strive to make learning exciting and meaningful while helping my students grow into confident, inspired thinkers ready to take on the world. Here, I plan to do the same.
From what I can tell from these letters, your teaching experience involves a challenging range of student interests and abilities.Thank you so much for taking an interest in my blog posts.
Thank you. 30 some years of teaching and travel has given me plenty to write about. Remember these good letters and recall that you never earned them easily.
I can only imagine the stories and lessons you’ve gained. Thank you for giving your care and compassion to our students. I hold these letters dear to my heart and will remember your words!
