What’s a common misconception people have about happiness?
They tried to sell me happiness today like it was sold out or on backorder.
Exclusively available to the ones who have their life in order.
I kept ordering a different version of myself I clearly could not afford.
Somehow I could not restore.
They told me that being happy had a price tag,a look, and a bag.
That if I lined it all up my soul would finally align.
But all I found was a full life with just an empty mind.
They preached and teached how happiness was
picture ready,
but it was filter fresh.
Nobody told me joy got bad days too.
That it can sit in silence with nothing to prove and with something to lose.
The misconception is thinking happiness is a place you reach,
when really it is a language you speak
and I was not fluent,
just influenced by everything that told me it had to look a certain way.
And the less I chased happiness,
the more it stayed right here in my face.
