Today’s TEACHERble Moment: Not All Growth is Instant
If you could instantly master any skill, what would it be and why?
I’ve been sitting with today’s prompt for a minute because I could answer it in two ways. I could give the answer that sounds nice, or I could give the one that actually makes sense to me.
I’m going with what makes sense.
I don’t think I’d want to master any skill instantly. As much as that sounds good, it kind of takes away the point. The things that really matter take time, patience, practice and then more time, patience, and practice.
Right now, I’m always trying to get better at the skills I already have, but I’m also working toward new ones. And I’m learning that with consistency and a steady push, I’ll get there. Not all at once but step by step, piece by piece.
My name is Erykah Gray, but most people know me as Miss Gray. I’m from Centreville, a small town in southern Mississippi that I’m proud to call home. I earned my bachelor’s degree in English from The University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg and later completed a Master of Arts in Literature at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. I’m currently a doctoral student at the University of Louisiana at Monroe because I truly believe learning never stops. Teaching isn’t just what I do; it’s a part of who I am. I love speaking, writing, and encouraging others to find their voice. Each day in my classroom, I work to make learning engaging and meaningful while helping my students grow into confident, inspired thinkers ready to take on the world. Here, I hope to do the very same.
I, too, hope to be a doctoral student. Until the money opens the door, I read 50+ books a year, write every day, and tutor/teach mathematics, logic and chemistry to any student that is open. The classics have shaped me.
I respect that. Honestly, you’re already living like a doctoral student in a lot of ways. The money part will come, but the mindset you’ve built is what really matters. You’re already on your way, and I’m rooting for you! 💐
