Hi! Today’s lesson is on a name. My name.
My first name is Erykah (AIR-uh-kuh). Yes, like the air we breathe. And it’s one of those names people don’t forget. Not because it’s flashy or anything, but because it feels intentional. Most people ask how to spell it, and I’ve had many mention to me they’ve never met another one. Such small moments of curiosity has followed me my entire life.
Erykah comes from (Erica) or (Ericka). My name was birthed in Scandinavia and then, decided to journey here to America.
My name encompasses strength and leadership. And can you believe it’s connected to the winter heather plant? This particular heather plant, Erica carnea, is a tough one. In brutal conditions, the flower still manages to be beautiful. I like that symbolism more than I ever thought I would. I’d start acknowledging myself as the beautiful flower I am.
The spelling matters . That “y” changes everything. It takes the name out of the ordinary and gives it some personality. My name is creative, soulful, and a little unconventional, kinda like myself.
So Hi, again! My name is Erykah, like the like the air, the carnea, and Badu. Erykah has carried me through every version of myself. She’s an important opening of my story, she’s the moment, she’s me.
